Pretzel & Bread was born from a love of real, handcrafted food—with German roots and South African soul.

Founder Peter Ebel started his career as a qualified mechanic in Germany, but his passion for traditional baking never left him. After moving to South Africa, he swapped spanners for sourdough and began baking pretzels and artisan breads from a small home kitchen.

Early on, Jesse Thomas joined Peter to help grow the business. With shared vision and dedication, they built Pretzel & Bread into a proudly local bakery and food trailer known for quality, flavor, and honest craftsmanship.​

Our vision is to grow from a beloved bakery and food trailer into a recognised name in South African artisan baking. We see ourselves expanding through pop-ups, market stalls, wholesale partnerships, and, one day, a welcoming brick-and-mortar bakery—a place where friends meet, stories are shared, and bakes come fresh from the oven.
